Psychedelic Integration Q & A
Is the use of psychedelic drugs legal and will my insurance cover our session?
This is a complex question but, in short, the answer is yes and maybe! Yes, the use of some psychedelic drugs is legal for the treatment of mental health issues. You can read more on that here. In terms of using your insurance, some carriers are willing to reimburse up to 50-100% of your mental health costs. I recommend reaching out to them before our first session and inquiring. For integration work, I bill out of network and will provide you with a detailed super bill to submit directly to your insurance carrier following each time we meet.
Do you prescribe or administer psychedelic substances?
No. This is a really important distinction between Psychedelic Assisted Therapy and Psychedelic Integration Therapy. Assisted therapies typically include administering a psychedelic and conducting therapy while the client is in a non-ordinary state. I provide what is referred to as Psychedelic Supplemental Therapy or Integration Therapy. Our meaningful work takes place after the completion of psychedelic use and it best situated within 12-48 hours of your experience when neuroplasticity is at it’s peak.
Can I meet with you when I am under the influence of a Psychedelic substance?
No. While I believe in the power of trained and well-equipped trip sitters, this is not a service I offer. That being said, The Zendo Project is a wonderful resource on trip sitting as well as being training in the safety protocols and ethics of becoming a trip sitter yourself!
Where can I receive safe Psychedelic treatment?
Psychedelic treatment facilities are popping up everywhere so it is important to find a safe, well-researched, and ethical organization to partner with for your psychedelic journey. Here are my top recommendations:
“Compared with other drugs, psychedelics seldom affect people the same way twice, because they tend to magnify whatever’s already going on both inside and outside one’s head.”
